Stellar Blade PC Release Hits a Snag: Mandatory PSN Login
Well, here's a conundrum for gamers eagerly anticipating the PC release of popular action title, Stellar Blade. Yes, it's on its way, but there's a big "but" which will leave many in the cold. It seems, playing it on your computer will require logging into a PlayStation Network (PSN) account.
The Widespread PSN Accessibility Issue
Why's this such an issue. Well, PSN isn't actually supported in over one hundred countries. This means if you're in one of those regions, you simply won't be able to access the game you maybe were looking forward to. It's a bitter pill to take, all things considered, given how well-received the game has been by players as well as critics.
Developer Surprise and Publisher Communication
More puzzling, though, is that the developers themselves seemed surprised. There are reports of them recently telling fans that a PSN link was not in the pipeline for the PC version. They even went to the extent of asking where the game wasn't available, which shows a surprise lack of communication from Sony Interactive Entertainment, the publisher, for this decision.
Questionable Justification for a Single-Player Title
The indignation continues to build when you consider Stellar Blade doesn't even have online multiplayer capabilities that would otherwise render such a request justifiable. Most are hypothesizing this is Sony's move to provide its PSN user base with a boost, an act that has nothing to do with what gamers actually need or want for a single-player game.
Denuvo Adds to Player Frustration
And just to add insult to injury to all this, the game will have Denuvo anti-piracy software as well. For many of us, this is a point of contention in and of itself already, and combined with the PSN restriction, it effectively locks out a huge portion of the market for this South Korean gem. It's kind of a messy situation for what otherwise would have been an easy and enticing PC release.
