Google to Reduce Pixel 6a Battery Life with Mandatory Update
Google says a must-have fix will drop battery life in some Pixel 6a phones, Google will soon set up a needed update for Pixel 6a phones that will cut down battery size and how fast it charges in some phones. This follows a past fix for the Pixel 4a, and the firm will pay those hit by this.
Info on the Pixel 6a Battery Life Plan
From July 8, 2025, all Pixel 6a units will get a must-have update to Android 16. For what Google names "Impacted Devices," this fix brings in "key battery control options" that start after the battery goes through 400 charge rounds.
Once on, the update drops both the full power of the battery and how quick it charges. The said cause for this is safety; the lower battery power aims to stop possible heat-ups and fire breaks that came up with some Pixel 6a phones. Google notes that not all Pixel 6a phones will face this, as the problem may rely on the battery maker for each phone.
Pay Options for Hit Users
Google will give three ways to pay back owners of hit Pixel 6a units. These choices will be ready from July 21, 2025.
- No Cost Battery Change: Owners can get their phone's battery swapped to get back full power. This will be open at walk-in fix spots in the US, Canada, UK, Germany, Singapore, Japan, and India, and also by a mail-in plan for the US and India.
- Price Cut Code: A cut-rate code for buying another Pixel phone from the Google Store.
- Cash: A direct cash pay, seen to be less than what the price cut code is worth.
How to Check if You Can Get Pay
Users can go to Google's help site for the "Pixel 6a Battery Life Plan" to see if their device can get pay by giving some answers. The true worth of the price cut code and cash hasn't been shared yet. To give you an idea, the past Pixel 4a plan gave users a $100 voucher or a $50 cash pay.
