ASRock Launches 12V-2x6 L-Type Cable with Sensor to Prevent Melting Connectors
The meltdowns of 16-pin power connectors on high-end graphics cards continue unabated. ASRock's remedy includes a newly introduced 12V-2x6 L-Type connector cable fitted with advanced safety features.
New Key Features of ASRock's Cable
The cable supports design aspects that improve safety and usability:
- Inbuilt NTC Sensor: An integrated NTC sensor is included in the cable to detect resistance changes for Over-Temperature Protection, the most significant feature that prevents overheating and possible melting.
- L-Type (90 Degrees) Connector: By elimination of bending the cable at sharp angles at the connector, the right-angle design reduces physical stress on the pins that usually lead to connector failures, especially in low-clearance cases.
- Dual-Color Insertion Indicator: A visual design enables users to confirm that the plug is completely and properly inserted into the power connector of the GPU, at the same time covering a top user mistake.
A Very Important Compatibility Limitation
These features, particularly Over Temperature Protection, are not automatically meant for every cable. The company specifies that using ASRock's Taichi and Phantom Gaming series power supplies allows applying these cables. Users using power supply units (PSUs) from other companies would not be able to use this feature.
Official Usage Guidelines from ASRock
For safe operations, ASRock recommends that all users attach the cable in three phases: Inserted, Click-Locked, and completely Seated. They seriously dissuade users against bending the cable in any direction after it has been connected, especially around the plug itself.
Pricing and Availability
According to reports, this 12V-2x6 L-Type cable by ASRock is priced at $40 and carries a 2-year limited warranty. Clearly, this will cost a little; however, it's being sold as possibly saving several times that amount on a single GPU damage incident.
