Sleeping Dogs Film Adaptation Moves Forward with Completed Script Draft
Of late, much was to be expected from the action game Sleeping Dogs's film adaptation; and with the confirmation by lead actor Simu Liu that a draft of the script is finished, the project's long-stagnant wheels have been set a-turning.
Simu Liu's Social-Media Confirmation
Liu took to social media to share the update, along with a picture of the first page of the script. While the name of the writer was purposely blacked out, the image at least proved that a real script exists, which has been an important landmark for the production.
Of course, it is a rough draft, which will require producers' approval before moving on to the shooting stage officially.
A Project Revived After Previous Setbacks
This is a major turnaround for the adaptation. Earlier in the year, Donnie Yen, one of the usual suspects associated with the project, announced that the film was not going to happen anymore. This, he said, was due to problems with its development in Hollywood after he had put in his own time and money into the effort.
However, in February, Liu denied that version of the story by announcing that he had successfully negotiated to revive the development of the film with no Yen involvement. This draft being in existence bears out Liu's assertion and shows that there is some activity going on regarding the project.
