Sony Major Firmware Updates for WF-1000XM5 Earbuds and WH-1000XM6 Headphones
Sony has now begun rolling out significant updates with absolutely new firmware for its popular WF-1000XM5 earbuds and WH-1000XM6 headphones. The updates which have been designated as Version 6.0.0 for the WF-1000XM5 and Version 3.0.0 for the WH-1000XM6 are being pushed globally with several new features being introduced and other functional improvements.
Key New Features in Both Updates
Both devices get a whole slew of core updates to enhance their performance capabilities.
- Extended Support for Low Energy Audio: The Bluetooth LE Audio functionality has been widened. Digital Assistants and Head Tracking can now function while connected using LE Audio.
- Google Gemini Live Support: The updates now add support for Google's Gemini Live feature.
- Audio Sharing with Fast Pair: Fast Pair now provides users with access to the new feature of Audio Sharing.
- Increased Security: Further unspecified improvements in security of the system software for both firmware versions.
According to Sony, to use Digital Assistant and Head Tracking with LE Audio, users must delete all previously established pairing information on their device for the headphones or earbuds and repair it after the firmware update is complete.
Specific Improvements for Each Model
Although many features might be shared, each model also sees its share of relevant updates.
Sony WF-1000XM5 (Version 6.0.0)
The WF-1000XM5 earbuds have improved control of the Find Hub feature:
- Find Hub can now locate left and right earbuds separately.
- The feature can now be turned off without placing the earbuds in the charging case.
Sony WH-1000XM6 (Version 3.0.0)
For the WH-1000XM6 headphones, the new expanded LE Audio support now works with the Find Hub feature through LE connection.
