Cloud Streaming Service for PlayStation Portal Officially Launched

PlayStation has announced that official cloud streaming support has been extended for the PlayStation Portal, widely considered to be its user-friendly hybrid device. This new update for the feature comes two years after the device was launched, with a public beta released around a year ago. As a result, if they can have their compatible digital game library stream directly to their device, they would rather do so.

Cloud Streaming Requirements and Limitations

Some conditions apply under which the new streaming feature will be accessible, as laid down by the PlayStation:

  • PS Plus Premium Subscription: A subscription to the highest tier of PlayStation Plus will be required for cloud streaming.
  • Game Library: The feature only works with a select number of digital games in your library that are otherwise compatible with cloud streaming.
  • Regional Availability: The list of games that can be streamed may vary between regions. PlayStation maintains a list of thousands of titles that are available.

Enhancements in the Latest Firmware Update

The update enabling cloud streaming support introduces further improvements for the entire PS Portal user base:

  • New Home Screens: The home screens for remote play and the new cloud streaming page have been updated.
  • Improved Search: Search screens are now able to identify which games are available for cloud streaming.
  • 3D Audio Support: 3D audio is now supported for remote play and cloud streaming sessions.
  • Network Status Screen: A new screen to help assess the strength and stability of internet connection.
  • Device Security: Users can now add a passcode lock on their PlayStation Portal for additional security.

Enhancements Specific to Cloud Streaming

The update will also add enhancements for cloud streaming users:

  • Accessibility Options: The ability to enable accessibility features such as screen readers and text size changes while streaming.
  • Game Invitations: Social Invites will now work correctly during the streaming session.
  • In-game Purchases: It is now possible to make real money purchases within a game while streaming it.
