MediaTek Launches an All-Performance-Core Architecture Chip With Dimensity 8500
The Dimensity 8500 processor introduced by MediaTek is a new chip designed for high-end smartphones that comprise all "big" performance cores architecture . Indeed, this chip is manufactured on TSMC's 4nm N4P process to improve so many aspects in the graphics system.
CPU Architecture and Memory
Dimension 8500 is built entirely on Cortex-A725 cores without allocating performance-balanced energy-efficient cores. The idea is to close the performance gaps between premium devices and flagship ones.
- Core Configuration: 1 core Cortex-A725 at 3.4 GHz, 3 at 3.2GHz, and 4 at 2.2 GHz.
- Performance Uplift: The CPU demonstrates around 7% of performance increase when compared to Dimensity 8400.
- Memory: It supports quad-channel 9600 Mbps LPDDR5X memory, presenting an increase of approximately 12% in bandwidth compared to its predecessor.
Most Advanced Graphics and Gaming
Comparison: The graphics fractal has gone through massive improvements in comparison to its counterpart, all with the ability to sustain 120 fps in-built games.
- GPU: The new Mali-G720 MC8 graphics are expected to give up to 25% performance boost while consuming 20% less power.
- Hardware Ray Tracing: MediaTek claimed it is the first chip of this type to provide hardware-accelerated ray tracing.
- Power Efficiency: Dimensity Multi-Frame Rate technology is included, which can reduce power consumption by up to 30% in general gaming and up to 37% in MOBA titles.
AI and Camera Processing
MediaTek's chipset has an advanced AI and imaging capability by having its separate neural processor and ISP algorithms.
- AI Processor: The NPU 880 handles all AI-related tasks such as support for local text and image generation, real-time translation, and large language models (LLMs).
- Camera Features: The imaging suite will consist of algorithms for enhanced zoom, glare removal, and scene segmentation. It will also enable 4K HDR recording with zero shutter lag and support full-pixel phase detection autofocus.
