iOS 27 Device Compatibility: iPhone 11 Avoids the Chop at WWDC 2026

Apple Extends iOS 27 Support to iPhone 11 and Introduces New Liquid Glass UI Transparency Slider During WWDC 2026 Keynote

A huge hardware surprise during the early stages of the WWDC 2026 Keynote that countered the rumors and speculation of recent months, every single iPhone from the iPhone 11 lineage up to and including the newest hardware will receive full iOS 27 support. That provides one extra software generation of support for Apple's 2019 flagship devices, giving a huge bump to users hanging on to older hardware.

In response to criticism of user interface choices over the last year, Craig Federighi demonstrated a targeted correction to the platform's Liquid Glass user interface. Instead of a strict, semi transparent display that at times rendered screen information unreadable, the slider provides a system wide adjustment allowing the user to manually slide interface elements between the extreme Ultra Clear on one side and fully Tinted Glass on the other. Additionally, app icons were given a newly refracted depth layer and system app load times were boosted by up to 30% on both the iPhone and iPad platform hardware.

Health App Changes: A set of native menopause and perimenopause cycle tracking metrics were added to the Health app.

AirPods Custom EQ: A fully user adjustable system wide equalization matrix for AirPods peripherals was added to the Settings panel.

Maps Flyover Redesign: The 3D Flyover mode within Maps was updated with a complete design overhaul and optimization of the environmental textures and display layer for dense city centers.
