Laptop sales across Chinese online channels fell during the first half of 2026 despite a jump in average transaction prices. Data from research firm RUNTO Technology shows shipments dropped 12.1% while total spending held up better due to premium upgrades. The market has now logged 3 straight quarters of volume declines.
Total online retail volume reached 5.57 million units during the 6 month period, generating 39.7 billion yuan in sales revenue. That represents a 4.9% drop in total value. Shoppers are spending more per machine, with the average selling price rising 8.2% to 7120 yuan. The sweet spot for buyers was the 6000 to 7999 yuan range, which captured 25.4% of total sales volume.
Apple helped lift the 4000 to 5999 yuan bracket, expanding that segment share by 2.7 percentage points. At the premium end above 10000 yuan, market share climbed to 14.0%, up 3.3 percentage points from the prior year. This upper tier benefited from government subsidies offering 15% discounts up to 1500 yuan, alongside steady demand from creative professionals buying flagship devices.
Major ecommerce platforms saw sales concentrate heavily among a small group of players. Lenovo, Apple, Asus, Mechrevo, and HP took the top 5 spots, controlling 82.3% of the online market. That marks an 11 percentage point increase in combined share compared to the same period last year. RUNTO Technology projects full year online shipments will reach 12.5 million units as the annual sales contraction eases to about 7%.
