Chinese chipmaker ChangXin Memory Technologies is nearing the final stages of validation for its LPDDR6 low power memory chips. If successful, the company could begin mass production during the second half of 2026, putting it ahead of several global rivals.
According to reports originating from Yicai, CXMT has already sent early samples of the new memory to core customers. The initial LPDDR6 design targets a speed rate of 12,800 Mbps, which integrates with system on chip processors at a base running rate of 10,667 Mbps. Each chip offers a capacity of 16 Gb and uses a 1295 Ball stack package. This represents a major leap in power efficiency and reliability compared to the older LPDDR5X standard.
Bringing new memory to the consumer market requires passing through 4 distinct verification checkpoints. CXMT is currently completing research and development validation, which tests system stability, device compatibility, power consumption, and mechanical reliability. Passing this checkpoint ensures the design is sound before initiating small scale testing and full production.
The push for LPDDR6 marks a rapid evolution for the company. Corporate revenue data shows that mobile memory is the primary source of income for the firm, with the LPDDR series making up 66.43% of main business revenue, while the standard DDR series accounted for 31.87%. The current global market still relies heavily on LPDDR5 and LPDDR5X, but CXMT is moving quickly to establish an early lead in the next generation architecture.
