TCL CSOT Enters Optical Communications Market for AI Data Centers

Display giant TCL CSOT is expanding beyond screens to enter the optical communications hardware market. The company plans to supply critical data transmission components for AI infrastructure through its new Shenzhen Huazhao Xingguang project. Initial operations will focus on specialized laser chips before expanding into complex optical modules.

During an investor conference reported by Jiemian News, TCL CSOT CEO Zhao Jun outlined the business plan. Surging artificial intelligence workloads in server clusters are driving unprecedented demand for optical networking gear. To meet this demand, TCL CSOT will begin by producing indium phosphide laser chips. Rather than building entirely new factories, the company is adapting cleanroom space, manufacturing tools, and supply chain clusters from its established LED division to speed up initial output.

The company has structured its market entry around a clear 3 stage roadmap. In phase 1, production will center strictly on laser chips to establish core technical processes and achieve high volume yields. Once chip fabrication stabilizes, phase 2 will introduce optical subassemblies, specifically transmitter and receiver units designed to capture higher product margins.

In phase 3, TCL CSOT plans to evaluate building complete high speed optical transceivers based on direct feedback from cloud computing clients. Moving up the supply chain into finished modules will allow the manufacturer to deliver higher levels of component integration. This strategy marks a major shift as traditional display makers look to data center infrastructure for long term business growth.
