Acer has revealed Project DualPlay Mini, an 8 inch concept PC that combines a portable gaming handheld with a miniature clamshell laptop. The device features traditional gaming controls on the front alongside a flip open lid that exposes a full backlit physical keyboard. But Acer is currently treating this ambitious design as a showcase prototype to mark its 50th anniversary.
The core philosophy behind the hardware is eliminating the trade off between portable gaming and typing productivity. In handheld mode, players get standard analog sticks, face buttons, and triggers tailored for Windows gaming. Opening the top half instantly converts the form factor into a tiny laptop for answering messages or managing spreadsheets. Users can also plug the machine into an external monitor to run a full desktop workstation on the go.
Under the hood, Acer installed an Intel processor capable of running modern PC games and productivity suites. To keep temperatures low inside such a tight shell, the engineering team adapted the thermal system from the Predator Atlas 8. That cooling setup uses 2 separate fans, pairing 1 standard plastic fan with 1 custom AeroBlade metal fan designed with ultra thin blades to maximize interior airflow during heavy workloads.
According to details from the official Acer release shared by ITHome, the chassis also carries a hidden nod to the history of the brand. The back shell features the phrase Acer 50 since 1976 printed in Morse code. Acer has not shared pricing or launch plans for the device, but the prototype offers an interesting look at how future handhelds might combine gaming controls with physical keyboards in a single pocketable system.
