ARM has introduced the Mali G2 Ultra NX, a mobile graphics processor featuring dedicated neural hardware for graphics rendering. The chip brings desktop style neural upscaling and frame generation to mobile devices to boost visual fidelity and frame rates. The silicon makes its official debut inside the new Xiaomi 18 Fold.
The Mali G2 Ultra NX represents the first graphics processor from ARM to integrate dedicated neural acceleration blocks directly on the silicon. This design enables 3 distinct graphical technologies during active gameplay. Neural Super Sampling reconstructs high resolution imagery from lower baseline resolutions. Neural Frame Rate Upscaling generates interpolated frames to smooth out motion. Neural Super Sampling and Denoising combines resolution scaling with noise reduction specifically for ray tracing pipelines.
Internal performance testing shows measurable gains across demanding mobile titles. In Honkai Star Rail the chip delivers a 9% performance boost over the 14 core Mali G1 Ultra while Fortnite sees a 14% uplift. Heavier graphical workloads show gains between 17% and 20%. During a demonstration using the Neural Dawn test scene upscaling from 540p to 1080p combined with frame generation pushed output from 15 to 60 frames per second. External memory access also dropped by 70% which is vital for managing battery heat on handheld hardware.
Underneath the neural hardware sits the largest execution engine redesign for the Mali line across 7 generations. General graphics throughput climbs by up to 24% and 3rd generation hardware ray tracing cuts memory bandwidth overhead by 13%. Hardware support for Opacity Micromaps delivers an extra 30% boost to frame rates while reducing ray tracing compute load by up to 70%.
Hardware adoption is already underway with the Xiaomi 18 Fold, which integrates the Mali G2 Ultra NX inside its XRING O3 application processor. Game developers are also preparing support. The team behind Where Winds Meet is currently embedding these neural tools into the Messiah engine, making it one of the first major titles to take advantage of the new architecture.
