Honor has introduced the Magic9 Pro Max, a flagship smartphone engineered alongside cinema camera legend Arri. The device packs dual 200MP cameras, a massive 8800mAh battery, and a dedicated 3D face unlock system. While it is currently on sale in China starting at roughly $969, international release dates remain unannounced.
The camera island takes design inspiration from vintage movie gear. Its rear module mirrors the Arriflex 35 three lens turret from 1937, complete with a knurled metal ring around the primary lens. The hardware backing this look is built for serious video production. The primary camera relies on a 200MP sensor measuring 1/1.28 inch, paired with CIPA 8.0 optical stabilization and an f/1.57 aperture. A second 200MP sensor powers the periscope telephoto lens with 3.5x optical zoom. The third camera provides 50MP ultra wide coverage. Honor also added physical support for external lenses with varied focal lengths.
Software tuning comes directly from professional filmmaking standards. The built in Arri Cinema Mode records in the Arri LogC3 color profile, preserving delicate shadow and highlight details for color correction. Users get 14 official Arri Look LUT presets alongside support for custom third party LUT libraries. Footage records in the APV format with 10 bit depth and 4:2:2 color sampling. Up front, the 55MP selfie shooter uses a square sensor format, letting content creators capture horizontal, vertical, or square clips without rotating the phone.
Sound capture receives a notable technical upgrade over standard mobile setups. Honor integrated a directional cinema grade microphone supported by a proprietary H1 audio processing chip. This hardware setup isolates human speech and reduces ambient noise before encoding, delivering an 8 dB boost to the signal to noise ratio during RAW video recording. The setup targets field reporters and concert video creators who need clear vocal clarity from long distances.
Under the display sits the 2nm Snapdragon 8 Elite Extreme Gen 6 processor. Power is supplied by an 8800mAh battery that supports 100W wired charging and 80W wireless charging speeds. The 6.8 inch LTPO display outputs 1.5K resolution, shifts from 1 to 120Hz, and hits a peak brightness level of 10000 nits. Security includes an ultrasonic in screen fingerprint scanner as well as a hardware 3D face mapping array that matches the security level of Apple Face ID.
Pricing for the base version with 12GB of RAM and 256GB of onboard storage starts at 6499 yuan, which equals about $969. Stepping up to 12GB of RAM and 512GB of storage brings the price to 6999 yuan, or roughly $1043. Buyers looking for higher multitasking headroom can pick up the 16GB RAM and 512GB edition for 7499 yuan (about $1117). The top configuration with 16GB of RAM and 1TB of storage retails for 8499 yuan, coming out to approximately $1266. Honor plans to announce international launch schedules and regional pricing separately.
