Huawei has introduced the Mate XT 2 Ultimate Design, an ultra thin tri fold smartphone running on the new Kirin 9050 Pro processor. The device combines a 10.2 inch flexible inner display with hardware level privacy filtering and satellite communications. The handset is available in China starting at 19999 CNY.
Foldable phones continue to shrink in thickness, and Huawei managed to push the engineering further here. The Mate XT 2 uses a G shaped folding layout that measures just 12.3 millimeters thick when closed. Unfolded, the chassis drops to a slim 3.5 millimeters. It comes in black, white, and purple finishes accented by traditional gold weave styling and a star diamond camera housing. The outer screen measures 6.5 inches with a resolution of 2442x1140 and reaches 6500 nits of peak brightness. Inside, the folding panel opens to a 10.2 inch 3K display with a 12.8 to 9 aspect ratio.
Durability was a major focus for this hardware generation. The chassis uses the Xuanwu architecture with IP58 and IP59 water resistance ratings, marking a first for a tri fold device. The outer glass provides 30 times better drop protection and 16 times better scratch defense. Inside, multi layer composite materials boost impact resistance by 200%. Huawei also added a dedicated hardware privacy screen mode. Activating this feature switches the display to narrow angle pixels so side viewers only see a black screen, which users can toggle by double tapping the outer glass.
Under the hood sits the Kirin 9050 Pro, the most capable mobile processor from the company so far. Official benchmarks presented during the launch show a 42% overall performance jump over the previous generation, with multi core CPU speed up by 52%. The Maliang GPU adds real time ray tracing support with a 142% leap in rendering performance. For machine learning tasks, the DaVinci NPU runs an on device 30B parameter model. A vapor chamber graphene cooling system helps reduce temperatures by 2.5 degrees Celsius during intense gaming sessions.
The rear camera module features a 50MP primary sensor with an 18EV light capture range and an aperture that shifts between F1.49 and F4.0. Telephoto duties are handled by a 50MP periscope lens offering 3.5x optical zoom, accompanied by a 40MP ultra wide camera and a third generation Red Maple color sensor that improves color accuracy by 95%. The phone runs HarmonyOS 7, which supports running 3 applications side by side and provides PC style productivity modes. Ground networks benefit from 5A cellular speeds, while satellite messaging and calling connect 40% faster.
Huawei is offering several storage configurations for the handset. The base 16GB and 256GB model costs 19,999 CNY (approx. $2,980 USD), while upgrading to 512GB raises the price to 21,999 CNY (approx. $3,278 USD) and the 1TB model sits at 23,999 CNY (approx. $3,576 USD). A dedicated privacy screen version with 1TB costs 24,999 CNY (approx. $3,725 USD). Buyers get a rotating stand protective case included in the box. A special stylus bundle with 2TB of storage costs 29,999 CNY (approx. $4,470 USD), and an external SmallRig camera kit is available separately for 1,499 CNY (approx. $223 USD) to reach 13.5x optical zoom.
