Intel is preparing to expand memory choices for its upcoming mobile chips. The upcoming Nova Lake processors carrying 12Xe graphics will officially support DDR5 memory modules at speeds reaching 8000 MT/s CSO DIMM. This gives manufacturers far more flexibility when configuring premium laptops and compact systems.
Hardware leaker Golden Pig Upgrade revealed on Weibo that Intel will validate standard DDR5 sticks on the larger graphics variant. The policy change is deliberate. Intel withheld official DDR5 support on Panther Lake 12Xe mobile chips, even though the hardware could handle it.
Hardware partners proved that restriction was artificial. ASRock Industrial released mini PC units running the Core Ultra X7 358H with standard DDR5 slots, showing the silicon had zero trouble running the memory. Intel simply chose to restrict official support on mobile platforms during that product generation.
Desktop hardware plans explain why Intel is making the change. Because this specific 12Xe silicon die will also appear on FCLGA desktop sockets, DDR5 wiring was required on the silicon level anyway. Bringing that validation to mobile hardware allows PC builders to install modular memory instead of relying strictly on soldered RAM.
