Hardware designer jyap808 has released Pando, a fully open source split ergonomic keyboard driven by an STM32 microcontroller. The design pairs an onboard IO expander with a custom Multi Jet Fusion nylon case inspired by Brutalist architecture. All schematics, firmware files, and assembly guides are now publicly available for custom builders.

The build marks an evolution from the earlier Pando58 project, ditching separate RP2040 Zero development boards in favor of a cohesive surface mount layout. At the center of the primary half sits an STM32G0B1KBT6 microcontroller, while the secondary half uses a PCA9555 IO expander communicating across an I2C connection. Both halves link through USB C connections with dedicated ESD protection chips across all ports to prevent electrical damage during daily cable swaps.

Home assembly was a top priority throughout development. Layout generation was handled in Ergogen, while KiCad managed the schematic and circuit board routing. Placing all surface mount components on 1 side of the board allows builders to complete the entire soldering job at home using an inexpensive hotplate. This design choice removes the need for costly factory assembly services.

The enclosure takes direct cues from raw concrete architecture by using unfinished natural grey PA12 HP Nylon produced via Multi Jet Fusion printing. Stainless steel switch plates and bottom plates peek through the top and bottom of the housing to complete the industrial aesthetic. The builder has made the full project repository accessible on GitHub and published complete hardware documentation on the official Pando project site alongside coverage on KBD news for the mechanical keyboard community.
