Sony has introduced the 8 to 14mm f 3.5 Fisheye G SEL814G as its first full frame fisheye zoom lens. The optic provides both circular and diagonal perspective modes in a compact body that weighs only 314 grams. It is currently available with an official retail price of $1,599.99 USD (£1,499 / €1,700).
This lens gives photographers two distinct shooting styles in a single barrel. At the 8mm setting, it records a full 180 degree circular field of view on a standard sensor. Zooming in to 14mm expands the coverage across the entire frame, giving you a diagonal fisheye look with wide peripheral capture. The minimum focusing distance sits at 0.15 meters with a maximum magnification ratio of 0.22x for close shooting situations.
Sony packed a complex glass arrangement into this small chassis. The internal formula includes 1 ED aspherical element, 2 standard aspherical elements, and 4 extra low dispersion elements. This configuration helps keep flare and ghosting under control when pointing the bulbous front element directly toward strong light sources. The barrel also features moisture and dust seals throughout, paired with a rear slot for drop in filters.
The autofocus system relies on dual linear motors to move the internal glass groups quickly and quietly. When mounted to high speed bodies like the Alpha 9 III, the lens can keep up with continuous tracking at 120 frames per second. That kind of tracking speed is rare for extreme wide angle glass. It makes the unit a practical option for fast action sports, action cameras rigs, and creative visual projects that demand high frame rate tracking.
