Wooting has announced the 80HE Plus, an upgraded version of its popular Hall effect keyboard. The refreshed model introduces new Lekker Tikken switches, an FR4 mounting plate, and internal acoustic damping to refine the typing feel. Buyers will be able to choose between fully assembled units with zinc alloy or ABS cases, as well as a standalone PCB module.
The primary revisions on the 80HE Plus target key stability and sound quality. Wooting fitted the board with Lekker Tikken magnetic switches that feature a closed bottom housing design. This change helps stabilize key presses and softens the bottom out sound during intense gaming sessions. To eliminate metallic case resonance, the manufacturer replaced the previous plate with an FR4 composite switch plate. This material delivers a solid feel while preventing unwanted vibration from traveling through the chassis. Internal damping foam has also been added to the base of the enclosure to create a deeper acoustic profile.
Wooting plans to offer the keyboard in 2 distinct form factors for buyers. Prebuilt configurations come with a choice between an ABS plastic body with a tinted translucent top cover or a heavy zinc alloy frame with a wear resistant black surface. The zinc alloy model includes a large programmable Lekker rotary knob as standard equipment, while ABS buyers can add the knob as an optional accessory. For enthusiasts who prefer custom builds, the bare PCB module supports an optional 3 piece split spacebar layout to provide extra thumb controls.
