4A Games and Deep Silver have confirmed free next generation upgrades for Metro 2033 Redux and Metro Last Light Redux across PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series consoles. The visual patches bring 4K resolution at up to 120 fps alongside platform specific tech like DLSS on PC and PSSR on PlayStation 5 Pro. The updates will arrive first on PC with console editions following shortly after, completely free of charge for existing owners.
The update refreshes core graphical assets across both titles without altering the foundational gameplay design. Players with compatible displays can run either title at native 4K at 60 fps or opt for upscaled 4K at 120 fps. The patch enhances environmental textures, lighting systems, shadow maps, character animations, and overall audio fidelity. PC players gain access to DLSS upscaling and uncapped frame rates, while Xbox Series X players receive TSR upscaling. PlayStation 5 Pro users will benefit directly from Sony custom PSSR upscaling technology.
Console versions incorporate modern controller features to increase immersion during tunnel exploration. PlayStation 5 players receive support for DualSense adaptive triggers, while Xbox users get impulse trigger feedback alongside spatial audio. Both console builds add an optional power saver mode. 4A Games confirmed that the PC build bundles several community requested bug fixes to resolve legacy stability issues on modern operating systems.
This technical overhaul arrives as the Metro franchise crosses 50,000,000 units sold globally since the original debut in 2010. The upgraded Redux editions give players a polished entry point to revisit the opening chapters of the story ahead of the upcoming release of Metro 2039. Deep Silver stated that complete patch notes detailing individual graphics options will go live alongside the PC deployment.
