AMD Samples Versal AI Core XQRVC1902 SoC for 15 Year Space Missions

AMD has started shipping early samples of its Versal AI Core XQRVC1902 adaptive SoC to aerospace customers. The radiation hardened processor uses a custom lidless package designed to withstand 15 year space missions. The silicon is currently undergoing testing for top tier military space certifications.

AMD built the SoC using an in house space grade lidless package combined with reinforced organic substrate materials. The engineering layout incorporates specialized chip capacitors to reduce the impact of extreme thermal shifts and mechanical vibration. These physical protections keep the processor functional during long orbital deployments where hardware maintenance is impossible.

Testing for the Versal AI Core XQRVC1902 is being conducted under the highest tier of space component standards. AMD is qualifying the hardware against the United States military standard MIL PRF 38535 Class Y specifications. This certification confirms whether the adaptive architecture can maintain continuous processing operations under heavy radiation exposure and deep space vacuum conditions.
