Apple has officially acknowledged reports of screen failures on the new foldable iPhone Duo following early consumer complaints. The company confirmed to Bloomberg that a small number of devices are affected, offering free hardware replacements through AppleCare without requiring an active AppleCare+ subscription. Official reasons for the panel damage remain under investigation.
User complaints focus on the inner folding crease of the flexible display. Owners report feeling physical resistance in the hinge mechanism alongside audible cracking noises immediately before the display panel breaks. These failures result in vertical lines of dead pixels and unresponsive touch areas across the fold line. Apple is actively collecting damaged units from retail stores to inspect the root cause of the breakdown.
Hardware repair specialists at iFixit investigated broken units to identify potential mechanical flaws. Their preliminary findings suggest a central support plate inside the hinge fails to retract fully during device closure, applying excessive upward pressure directly against the folding screen. Apple has yet to verify whether this specific hinge alignment defect is responsible for the broken panels.
