Cololight has introduced the Chimera, a specialized audio system designed as an alternative to traditional gaming headsets. The setup clamps directly onto gaming chairs to position off ear speakers beside the user head for open spatial audio without headband fatigue. Crowdfunding is currently live on Kickstarter at $219, with the standard retail price set to jump to $359 once global shipments begin in November.
The Chimera attaches to standard gaming chairs through a universal clamp mechanism that adjusts to user posture. The system operates similarly to oversized open back headphones without physical contact on the scalp. Audio connections support both wired AUX input and low latency 2.4 GHz wireless via an included dongle. The hardware works across PCs, dedicated gaming consoles, the Steam Deck, and mobile devices.
Each speaker housing contains 9 tweeters for handling mid and high range frequencies alongside a 4 inch woofer dedicated to low end bass output. Cololight engineered this multi driver layout to improve spatial positioning for directional game audio like footsteps and environmental cues. The package also includes a noise reduction microphone to handle voice chat during multiplayer sessions.
Backers can secure the complete kit on Kickstarter for $219 during the initial campaign. That package includes the chair mounts, the wireless receiver, and the microphone accessory. Once the product reaches standard retail channels, the MSRP will rise to $359. Cololight plans to start worldwide fulfillment in November.
