Dell has launched the Pro Rugged 13 Extreme and Pro Rugged 14, two laptops built specifically for demanding field operations. The machines feature Intel Core Ultra Series 3 processors, high brightness outdoor displays, and dual hot swappable batteries that users can replace without turning off the system. Both models arrive on the market this month, though official pricing remains unconfirmed.
Dell engineered both chassis to handle punishing outdoor conditions. The Pro Rugged 13 Extreme comes with an IP66 rating and survives direct drops from 1.82 meters. The Pro Rugged 14 carries an IP53 rating and handles drops from 0.91 meters. Both laptops pass MIL STD 810H testing and operate in temperature ranges from minus 29 to plus 63 degrees Celsius. The 13 Extreme model starts at 2.41 kilograms, while the 14 model starts at 2.13 kilograms.
Dell equips each model with distinct display and silicon configurations. The Pro Rugged 13 Extreme features a 13.3 inch 1920x1080 touchscreen that reaches 1400 nits of brightness. Top tier configurations pair an Intel Core Ultra X7 368H vPro processor with Intel Arc B390 graphics and up to 64GB of LPDDR5X memory. The Pro Rugged 14 uses a 14 inch 1920x1200 screen outputting up to 1100 nits with optional touch support. Its flagship configuration runs an Intel Core Ultra 7 366H vPro chip with an NVIDIA RTX Pro 500 Blackwell graphics card carrying 6GB of GDDR7 memory, alongside up to 64GB of LPCAMM2 RAM.
Dell solved runtime issues by allowing 2 separate 53.5 Wh batteries to slot into each system simultaneously. Field workers can hot swap either battery on the go without shutting down active programs. Wireless hardware includes Wi Fi 7 networking, with optional upgrades for a Qualcomm Snapdragon X72 5G cellular modem and a dedicated GPS module. Dell also includes the Rugged Control Center software tool to give users direct access to vital hardware toggles in the field.
