New Matter Sudo SP 01 Music Player Revives Classic Scroll Wheel Design

New Matter has introduced the Sudo SP 01, a compact music player that brings back the classic iPod style scroll wheel design. The device pairs a 2.73 inch touch display with local streaming capability and a dedicated audio jack. Pre orders are priced at $249, with hardware deliveries scheduled to begin toward the end of 2027.

The chassis measures 103.5 by 58.6 by 8.5 millimeters, maintaining a pocket sized form factor reminiscent of early digital audio players. Navigation relies on a tactile physical wheel paired with a square 2.73 inch LCD touchscreen operating at 320 by 320 pixel resolution. This combination allows users to browse menus using either mechanical rotation or direct touch inputs.

Internal storage sits at 64GB, with a microSD card slot supporting expansions up to 1TB for large offline music libraries. The device runs on proprietary Sudo OS software, which includes integration for music streaming services alongside standard file playback. Headphone connectivity includes a traditional 3.5 millimeter analog jack and wireless Bluetooth. A USB Type C port handles charging, with the internal battery rated for over 20 hours of continuous audio playback.

New Matter set the retail price at $249 for the Sudo SP 01. The startup plans to start initial hardware shipments toward the end of 2027, making this a long term project for buyers looking for dedicated audio hardware.
