Apple is preparing a massive shipment expansion for the second generation MacBook Neo, targeting roughly 16,000,000 units in 2027. Industry reports citing supply chain sources indicate the updated laptop will feature an A19 processor, up to 12GB of memory, and expanded color selections. The projected volume represents a near doubling of production compared to the 8,000,000 units ordered for the first generation hardware.
DigiTimes reports that Apple shared these shipment targets directly with component manufacturers ahead of a planned release in the first half of 2027. The increase in volume builds on the initial run of 8,000,000 units delivered across a 10 month window following the debut of the line. Because the original version was not available for a full calendar year, the actual annual increase remains slightly below a literal 2x jump. Apple previously doubled factory output to keep up with demand, keeping supplier assembly lines operating at elevated capacity.
Component suppliers point to internal hardware updates centered on the upcoming A19 chip. The revised laptop is expected to offer memory configurations reaching 12GB alongside additional chassis colors. Apple has not publicly verified these technical details, leaving them as supply chain estimates for now.
The hardware line remains central to expanding the personal computer market share for Apple, particularly among price conscious buyers and shoppers in emerging regions. Former chief executive Tim Cook stated that the initial rollout generated the highest volume of first time Mac buyers during any launch week on record. That performance helped Apple post a 13% year over year growth in Mac shipments during the second quarter, running counter to a broader slump across the worldwide personal computer sector.
