Camp Snap CS 8 Mini Brings Super 8 Video Recording to Kids

Camp Snap has launched the CS 8 Mini, a compact video camera modeled after classic Super 8 film equipment. The screenless device records video up to 2.7K resolution using a simple physical trigger built specifically for child hands. It is currently available on the US market priced at $150.

The design shrinks the original CS 8 form factor by more than 50% to make the handle comfortable for small grips. It uses a 1/2.7 inch sensor capable of capturing video at 2.7K. Operating the camera mimics vintage mechanical movie equipment. Users hold down the front trigger to film and release it to automatically save the clip to storage. An internal microphone captures accompanying audio.

Camp Snap stripped the camera of screens, Wi Fi, and Bluetooth to keep children focused on physical surroundings rather than digital displays. Reviewing footage requires connecting the unit to a computer or phone through a USB C port or removing the memory card. The package includes a 4 GB microSD card capable of storing roughly 30 minutes of footage. Retro style LED indicator lights display remaining battery charge and storage capacity.

Users can select between 4 frame formats, including 16:9, 9:16, 1:1, and 4:3. The camera software includes 8x digital zoom alongside 5 color modes. These presets offer standard color, 2 vintage profiles, black and white, and an analog film simulation that reproduces grain and frame flicker. Camp Snap sells the CS 8 Mini in 4 colors, including blue, green, pink, and orange.
