NieR Automata Steam Patch Triggers 366 GB Disk Space Bug

A fresh Steam patch for NieR Automata intended to introduce regional language packs has introduced an installation error requiring 366 GB of free storage. The official NieR account on X acknowledged the storage allocation bug and confirmed a repair is underway. Players running into installation blocks can bypass the error by deselecting all downloadable content packages before starting the download.

The update marks the first Steam software patch for the title in 5 years, primarily adding Simplified Chinese, Traditional Chinese, and Korean text options. The sudden storage surge does not stem from actual data bloat, but rather an error during the Steam storage preallocation check. The installation client incorrectly calculates the size of every individual add on pack as equal to the entire base software, stacking the required drive space threshold artificially high.

The real storage footprint remains close to 50 GB once the setup process completes on the drive. Until a revised patch rolls out on Steam, the official support advisory recommends clearing the checkmarks next to all extra DLC content inside the game properties menu. This allows the client to install the base files normally without demanding hundreds of gigabytes of empty storage. The development team is currently working on an official fix to correct the preallocation calculations.
