Ouch. Rockstar Confirms GTA VI Won't Arrive Until 2026
Well, the rumors did regretfully pan out. If you were waiting patiently until 2025 for a release of Grand Theft Auto VI, you'll need to reset your calendars. Rockstar Games has officially confirmed the news that many feared: GTA VI is delayed and is now targeting a May 26, 2026 release.
In an announcement posted to the public, the developer cited needing more time to finish making the game a masterpiece and ensure that it's up to the extremely high standards it has set around itself. Although wanting the game to be perfected is a valid reason (nobody wishes for another bugged launch), it's certainly a bitter pill to swallow given how long GTA VI has been allegedly in production.
Rockstar confirmed once again that their goal is to surprise gamers and that it would take this much extra time in order to attain that level of quality. They've promised more will be appearing soon, so hopefully we aren't left completely in the dark for long.
What About PC Players
This delay hits PC gamers particularly hard. With the console release now planned for Spring 2026 on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S, the typical Rockstar release cycle means a PC version likely won't appear until at least 2027, perhaps even 2028. That's a long wait added to an already long development cycle.
The Silver Lining (Maybe)
As disappointing as this is, the postponement isn't actually surprising given Rockstar's history of postponing releases to maintain quality. Despite this, experts continue to predict GTA VI as one of the biggest entertainment releases ever. If there's a small silver cloud here, it is that this gives everyone more time to save up for the inevitable hardware upgrades to enjoy the game to its fullest when it does release.
Thus, calendar mark (once more) for May 26, 2026, and take a snack. Vice City waiting now got a little longer.
