Sekiro No Defeat The Official Sekiro Shadows Die Twice Anime in Production

An official anime adaptation of the game Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice, developed by FromSoftware in 2019, was announced during Gamescom 2025. The series named Sekiro: No Defeat is being produced by studio ARCH and would be animated in full hand-drawing. The series would be streaming under exclusivity on Crunchyroll.

Combat with Real Action in Hand Drawn

The production will focus mainly on keeping true to the game's story with maximum emphasis on real action. The show director Kenichi Kutsuna, explains how his approach will be faced toward combat animation.

Kutsuna said that, "As an action animator, my core philosophy [has] always been to return to the basics. A sword combat with Japanese swords is, in fact, highly uncompromising; I want to portray that uncompromising reality-truthfully, without flinching. With every cut, every weight, every body, and every life. Although we turn towards hand-drawnness in a 2D nature, that action becomes soulfully beautiful transcending coolness."

Production Team and Voice Cast

The following key personnel will shepherd the world of Sekiro:

  • Director: Kenichi Kutsuna
  • Screenwriter: Takuya Satou
  • Character Designer: Takahiro Kishida
  • Composer: Shuta Hasunuma

The leading voice cast includes:

  • Wolf: Daisuke Namikawa
  • Kuro/The Divine Heir: Miyuki Satou
  • Genichiro Ashina: Kenjiro Tsuda

Crunchyroll Partnership and FromSoftware Universe

The rights to exclusively stream the series in partnership with Crunchyroll have been established. Asa Suehira, Chief Content Officer at Crunchyroll, stressed the great potential of this adaptation.

"Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice will be quite able to express its extremely technical and almost brutal side in the adaptation," he added. "We're excited to finally share Sekiro: No Defeat with fans all across the world."

Sekiro is a prime candidate from the FromSoftware realm for an anime adaptation due to its Sengoku setting and intentionally precise actions. This project stands as one of a couple of adaptations we now know of that come out of the developer, the other shield being the recently announced movie adaptation of Elden Ring by A24.

Release Date and Platform

Sekiro: No Defeat will formally launch on Crunchyroll sometime in 2026.
