Directors of Resident Evil Requiem End Speculation on Hooded Figure's Identity

February 27, 2026-much fan speculation concerning Resident Evil Requiem. This speculation has mainly been about the identity of the hooded figure that appears in the first trailer for the game. The directors of the game have issued a definitive statement to address the massive space left for speculation.

New Character Not Returning Face

Most speculated that the hooded person was the merchant in Resident Evil 4, but when interviewd with TheGamer at the Tokyo Game Show, director Masata Kumazawa pitched a straight blow to that theory with others.

Kumazawa then summarized the team's philosophy in not letting the surprise returns of established characters always be the final effect. He later gave a clear confirmation on his identity:

"The hooded person is a new character; we will confirm that much," Kumazawa stated. "In this case, it's a newly created character for this storyline...hopefully it contextualises how we're approaching the game's story."

Implications for the Game's Story

This means that Resident Evil Requiem will be primarily concerned with presenting new elements and personalities as opposed to some over-use of the series' established cast. By creating a new antagonist or key figure the story may be profitable even on a self-contained basis.

This could also serve to open up the game for newcomers to the Resident Evil franchise, who might not require extensive knowledge of earlier characters and events.
