AMD Confirmed FSR Redstone Launch Date of December 31, 2025, Will Live with Major AI Improvements
AMD has publicly confirmed the launch date for the FSR Redstone software update to be December 31, 2025, following a social media teaser by Jack Huynh, the Senior Vice President and General Manager of the Computing and Graphics Group. This update will reportedly mark the largest leap in the FSR and Radeon driver software stack, targeting the upcoming Radeon RX 9000 "RDNA 4" GPUs.
Major Features Based on Machine Learning for FSR Redstone
The FSR Redstone update, parties in shy of Computex 2025, has stemmed around a number of new technologies based on machine learning intended to aid in visual quality and performance.
- Neural Radiance Caching- ML models are to understand light behavior to predict scenes enabling an efficient real-time global illumination.
- ML Ray-Regeneration- Trained on low-sampled, noisy renders, this technology predicts and filters grain in real-time. It provides sharper visuals at a lower rendering cost, similar in function to NVIDIA's Ray Reconstruction.
- ML Super Resolution: This reconstructs low-resolution images in real-time to provide high-quality upscaled visuals.
- ML Frame Generation: AI-generated frames are inserted between frames rendered using traditional means to increase performance and higher frame rates.
The ML Ray-Regeneration technology was already shown in Call of Duty: Black Ops 7, where it substituted the standard denoiser with the AI algorithm giving enhanced visuals without any performance penalty.
Possible Compatibility with GPUs
Rumors seem to suggest the AMD FSR Redstone update perhaps is not just for AMD hardware and could maybe also be working on modern NVIDIA and Intel GPUs. Cross-vendor support confirmation is due to wait until the official launch.
It is also not known if AMD will provide FSR Redstone support for previous series of GPUs, such as RDNA 3 and RDNA 3.5. Nevertheless, the announcement has caused great anticipation for the Redstone update's release, despite a month still being left before launch.
