LG Display Launches New Oxide 1Hz Laptop LCD Panels Featuring 120Hz Variable Refresh Rates to Improve Energy Efficiency and Battery Life by 48 Percent

LG Display has officially launched a new LCD panel for laptops that utilizes Oxide 1Hz technology to achieve unprecedented energy efficiency. The new matrix system serves as a replacement for LTPO panels which are used in high end smartphones to increase the battery life of portable devices. The display supports a variable refresh rate which starts from 1 Hz to decrease power usage while maintaining the visual standards of a contemporary 120 Hz display.

The Oxide 1Hz matrix design enables its fundamental innovation to adjust its refresh rate from 1 Hz to 120 Hz depending on which content is currently displayed. The screen reduces its operating frequency to minimum values because users need to complete static activities which include document reading and text editing. The system detects high motion activities like gaming or movie playback so it automatically raises the panel frequency to 120 Hz maximum for smooth motion performance. The display uses this intelligent adjustment system to achieve higher operational efficiency compared to standard fixed rate display systems.

LG Display reports that the implementation of this new technology can increase total laptop battery life by up to 48 percent compared to systems using conventional display panels. The screen functions as the main power optimization area because the estimate demonstrates power usage reduction through screen replacement while all hardware stays unchanged. The first batch of laptops with Oxide 1Hz displays will begin shipping soon because the product has reached the mass production stage.

The announcement places LG at the forefront of the high efficiency display market for 2026. Intel and BOE announced their plans to launch a similar panel in late 2025 but they have not yet provided a date for product release. LG appears to be the first manufacturer to successfully bring this level of variable refresh rate technology to the laptop form factor at scale. The industry has undergone a fundamental transformation because manufacturers now prioritize extended battery life and high resolution display performance throughout the day.
