ASUS has introduced the XG Core, a compact external graphics enclosure designed to boost thin laptops with desktop grade performance. The tiny unit connects through 1 USB Type C cable to turn lightweight machines like the Zenbook 14 into full creator workstations. But ASUS has yet to confirm retail pricing or a general release date.
Small laptops often struggle when editing color graded 4K video timelines or rendering 3D viewports. ASUS built the XG Core to eliminate that limitation. Measuring just 144 by 117 by 39 millimeters, the tiny chassis packs an AMD Radeon RX 9060 XT LP graphics card with 16GB of GDDR6 video memory. It connects over USB4 or Thunderbolt 3 and newer ports. Setup is entirely plug and play. This allows creators to edit heavy projects at a desk without buying a bulky desktop tower.
Running artificial intelligence tasks locally is another central feature of the hardware. The 16GB memory pool gives users enough headroom to handle image generation and language models on their own machine. ASUS verified native support for tools like ComfyUI, LM Studio, and Ollama. This approach keeps project data on your desk instead of routing private files through cloud servers.
Beyond the external GPU demonstrations, ASUS also presented its wider ProArt display lineup at the IBC convention. The exhibit featured professional SDI monitors, high accuracy OLED displays, and multi GPU workstations the GR1X mini pc and ProArt P16 and P14 laptops powered by NVIDIA RTX Spark technology. These tools show how modern production workflows can scale smoothly from ultra portable mobile setups to real time studio rendering rigs.
