LG Display Begins Mass Production on 24.5 Inch 720Hz Gaming OLED Panel

LG Display has kicked off mass production of a 24.5 inch 720Hz Gaming OLED panel built specifically for competitive esports. It hits a 0.02 millisecond response time at 1920x1080 resolution to virtually eliminate motion blur during fast gameplay. ASUS has already secured the panel for its ROG Swift OLED PG259QWS Ace monitor ahead of the PGL CS2 Major in Singapore.

Competitive gamers almost always stick to 24 inch monitors. They need to track every corner of the screen without moving their eyes. LG Display wants to own this category. Hitting 720 screen refreshes every second is a massive technical challenge. To keep the image stable at 1920x1080 resolution, the company engineered a custom algorithm that controls data flow from the panel surface to the main board.

Motion clarity makes or breaks professional play. Traditional LCD screens suffer from ghosting when the camera moves quickly. Because every pixel on this OLED emits its own light, the screen eliminates backlight bleed while keeping gun muzzle flashes and fast moving race cars sharp. The 0.02 millisecond response speed gives players an immediate visual readout with almost zero input delay.

Tournament organizers are already putting the hardware to work. ASUS integrated the panel into its ROG Swift OLED PG259QWS Ace display, which was chosen as the official tournament monitor for the Singapore Counter Strike 2 Major. LG Display is using this rollout as the baseline for a wider gaming catalog that covers screens from 20 inch to 40 inch sizes. Hyeon woo Lee, the head of the Large Display Business Unit at LG Display, outlined the broader plan for the brand.

As a technology driven company, we will lead the transition to OLED in the gaming monitor market and lead the mainstreaming of OLED in the global market.

The company is focusing on specialized display algorithms to keep a technical lead over competing manufacturers. As esports leagues continue demanding higher refresh rates, this panel sets a high benchmark for what players will expect on the tournament stage.
