Minisforum has revealed more details about its S5 all flash NAS. The passively cooled machine runs on an Intel Wildcat Lake processor and supports up to 40 TB of storage across 5 SSD slots. However, the company has yet to confirm the official retail price ahead of its expected launch next month.
A fresh product listing on the Minisforum retail site confirms the hardware running inside the compact chassis. The system is powered by the Intel Core 3 304, an entry level member of the Wildcat Lake chip family. It features 5 CPU cores in total, combining 1 Cougar Cove performance core with 4 low power Darkmont cores that boost up to 4.3 GHz. The hardware runs MinisCloud OS straight out of the box. While an earlier prototype featured 12 GB of LPDDR5X 7500 memory, the updated product page leaves final RAM configurations unmentioned.
Storage density is the primary appeal of this design. Minisforum equips the enclosure with 5 individual M.2 NVMe SSD slots that each take drives up to 8 TB. Fully loaded, you get 40 TB of pure solid state storage without touching a mechanical hard drive. The aluminium chassis uses passive cooling instead of noisy fans. Because the Wildcat Lake chip draws very little power, the metal case dissipates heat naturally without thermal throttling under typical workloads.
Network connectivity is built for fast file transfers across local setups. The rear panel includes a 10GbE port alongside a 2.5GbE jack and wireless Wi Fi 7. For external peripherals, Minisforum added 2 USB4 ports running at 40 Gbps, 1 HDMI port, and 1 standard USB Type A connection. The system is pitched directly at creative media libraries and quiet home lab environments, giving buyers a compact all flash alternative to bulky storage servers.
