OM SYSTEM has unveiled the OM SYSTEM PEN, a rangefinder style mirrorless camera that brings weather sealing and a built in electronic viewfinder back to the classic series. Equipped with a 20.4 megapixel sensor and 5 axis image stabilization, the compact shooter is scheduled to ship in late October starting at $999.99 for the body.
According to official product details from OM SYSTEM, this is the first PEN camera bearing the new corporate brand name. It also marks the first time a PEN body includes IPX1 splash and dust protection alongside an integrated 2.36 million dot OLED viewfinder, a hardware feature missing since the PEN F. Inside, the camera runs a 20.37 megapixel Live MOS sensor alongside a TruePic IX image processor. Autofocus gets a major upgrade to a 121 point all cross type phase detection system with dedicated subject tracking for humans, cats, and dogs.
The internal 5 axis stabilization system provides up to 5.5 stops of compensation at the center and 4.5 stops at the edges. For quick tactile adjustments, a front dial controls custom color and monochrome film profiles. A dedicated button for computational photography grants instant access to Handheld High Res mode, focus stacking, and Live ND filters ranging from ND2 to ND16. Even with these hardware additions, the body weighs only 393 grams with a battery and memory card inserted.
Video capabilities include standard 4K at up to 30 frames per second, Cinema 4K at 24 frames per second, and slow motion reaching 120 frames per second. Creators also get OM Log400 and OM Cinema color profiles for post production color grading. The camera body retails for $999.99 in silver or black. A kit with the new IPX1 rated M.ZUIKO DIGITAL 14 to 42mm f3.5 to 5.6 III lens costs $1,099.99, while a dual zoom kit adding the 40 to 150mm f4.0 to 5.6 R lens is priced at $1,299.99. The updated 14 to 42mm zoom weighs 125 grams and offers a 0.53x magnification ratio with a 0.13 meter minimum focus distance.
