Panasonic Unveils AW UE200 4K PTZ Cameras with Global Shutter Sensors

Panasonic has announced the AW UE200 and AW UER200, representing the first commercial PTZ cameras equipped with a global shutter sensor. The new 4K models deliver 22x optical zoom alongside a rapid pan acceleration of 1800 degrees per second to eliminate motion distortion in broadcast settings. Both models are scheduled to arrive on the market in early 2027.

Standard PTZ cameras rely on rolling shutters that often warp fast moving subjects like athletes or race cars. Panasonic solved this issue by embedding a global shutter MOS sensor directly into the UE200 hardware. This architecture exposes the entire frame at once. As a result, images remain perfectly straight during rapid camera pans. The sensor also eliminates visual banding when recording in front of bright studio LED walls or flashing stage lights.

Camera movement is built for speed. The internal motor pushes pan acceleration up to 1800 degrees per second, tracking unpredictable stage action without missing a frame. Onboard tracking software handles subject framing automatically without requiring an external computer.

Broadcasters targeting mobile audiences get specific hardware in the UER200 variant. This model features a motorized roll axis spanning negative 200 degrees to plus 200 degrees. The camera outputs native vertical 9:16 video alongside standard horizontal 16:9 feeds using the full sensor surface. When mounting units on angled ceilings or tight truss spaces, a 1 touch leveling tool straightens the horizon automatically.

The glass layout pairs an 80 degree wide angle field of view with a 22x optical zoom mechanism. Operators can shift from wide to telephoto framing at variable rates, ranging from a swift 0.5 seconds up to a slow 120 seconds. Action coverage benefits from high frame rate recording reaching 180 frames per second for fluid slow motion playback. For high end facilities, the UE210 and UER210 variants add direct support for SMPTE ST 2110 video transport and Dante digital audio networks.

André Meterian, Director of Professional Video Systems at Panasonic Europe, highlighted the production advantages of the new hardware:

The global shutter MOS sensor delivers precise reproduction and captures split second movements, opening up new possibilities for operators to create immersive and dynamic visuals.
