AMD hardware can now execute Perplexity queries straight from local silicon. Through a joint announcement with Perplexity, the Portable Computer system is officially available on Windows machines powered by Ryzen AI Max processors and the Ryzen AI Halo platform. The software allows subscribers to run automated daily workflows on their own computer without spending cloud credits.
Running heavy reasoning models without cloud servers requires serious local memory. The platform targets machines configured with at least 24 GB of shared memory accessible by graphics cores alongside 20 GB of free storage. Instead of forcing developers to configure custom inference servers and toolchains, Perplexity packages the entire agent system together. Users can pull down models like Qwen 27B or the proprietary PPLX 27B in 1 click through the Windows desktop application settings.

Keeping files on local silicon solves a massive hurdle for corporate adoption. Sensitive files like payroll spreadsheets, patient records, and unreleased code never have to leave the machine. Portable Computer runs tasks inside an isolated sandbox with permissions tied to designated folders. It links directly to apps like Slack, Gmail, Outlook, and GitHub via Model Context Protocol servers. An internal security scanner checks content for account credentials and sensitive personal names before anything gets routed externally.
Local computing handles recurring office chores, but complex queries can still ping the web. When a task requires fresh market statistics or deeper analysis, the software requests user approval to query over 15 frontier models through Perplexity Search. The feature is available immediately to Pro and Max tier subscribers on Windows 10 and Windows 11 machines that meet the memory threshold.
