Maingear Rolls Out Retro95, an Old-Style Beige PC with New Tech
Maingear has just dropped the Retro95, a fresh desktop PC built to charm fans of old-school computer looks while packing up-to-date tech power. This "sleeper build" has the feel of a classic 90s computer but with modern parts inside. You can grab this limited-edition Retro95 now, starting at $1,599.
Mixing Old-School Looks With Today's Tech
The Maingear Retro95 rocks a 90s-like horizontal desktop design but is stuffed with top-notch tech. High-end setups can pack:
- CPU: AMD Ryzen 7 9800X3D
- GPU: Nvidia GeForce RTX 5080
- RAM: Up to 96GB of DDR5
- Storage: Up to 8TB of PCIe Gen4 NVMe SSD
Maingear has made sure this machine stays cool with "whisper-quiet air cooling" that keeps things quiet and efficient. Powerful builds have Noctua fans and an 850W PSU. The case has room for an optional optical drive, echoing back to the retro days.
Case and Build Story
The casing comes from a tweaked SilverStone’s FLP01 horizontal desktop case. This pick taps into a deep nostalgia for old-time computing.
Maingear's CEO and founder, Wallace Santos, talked about the idea: "This is for gamers who carried CRTs to LAN parties... The Retro95 release celebrates the old-school gaming world, with a look of the rigs we had as kids but with the punch you expect from Maingear today."
Starting Specs and Rare Finds
The $1,599 base model of the Retro95 includes:
- GPU: Nvidia GeForce RTX 5050
- CPU: AMD Ryzen 5 9600X
- Cooler: ID-Cooling IS-67-XT
- Motherboard: MSI B650 VC-WIFI II
- RAM: 16GB T-Force Delta RGB DDR5 6400MT/s
- Storage: 1TB T-Force A440 SSD
- PSU: 650W MSI MAG A650GL
This is a rare, pre-built PC. As Maingear notes, "When they're gone, it’s all over." For those missing this round or who like building on their own, the basic SilverStone FLP01 case is sold by itself.
