Marvel 1943 Rise of Hydra delayed until 2027 as Paramount Games Studio prioritizes quality over release schedules

Due to a big change in the release schedule Marvel 1943 Rise of Hydra has been taken out of its prior release window. According to a report by IGN the narrative driven adventure title will be delayed until 2027 at the earliest. The new organized Paramount Games Studio announced the delay of the title this past Monday due to its commitment to quality visuals over an aggressive release schedule.

The story of Marvel 1943 Rise of Hydra is set during a fictionalized version of World War 2 and features Captain America as well as the 1940s Black Panther Azzuri. Players can also play as Gabriel Jones of the Howling Commandos as well as the Wakandan spy Nanali. The game was first publicly announced in late 2021 which means that this project has a total of a 6 year development cycle after its initial reveal and 8 years since its creation following Amy Hennig and Julian Beak founding of Skydance New Media.

Following the acquisition of Skydance by Paramount and the formation of Paramount Games Studio a new home for Skydance New Media was created. Senior VP and Head of Creative and Production Shawn Kittelsen has confirmed the title is playable and that the delay is intentional so the team can focus on improving the game without having its employees burn out.

"It is a game. It is happening. It is playable. We are continuing development on it, but Amy and the team have big ambitions for the level of quality that they want to hit," Kittelsen said.

The new Paramount Game Studio is a much smaller scale studio than other AAA action studios which allows the company to focus on more sustainable development practices and avoid mass layoffs which have occurred in the game development world of late. Skydance New Media began its journey during the COVID 19 pandemic so the company had to build staff while also designing tools and the game.

"There was a decision made that rather than try to push the game out as quickly as possible, it would be better to focus on the quality of the game and making sure the team has time to cook. So we are giving them the time to cook."

Marvel 1943 Rise of Hydras delay will also affect Skydance's Star Wars project which is also being directed by Amy Hennig. Kittelsen has stated that all available engineering resources are focused on the Marvel title and will only shift to the Star Wars project once the Marvel title has been fully developed.
