Microsoft Surface Laptop Ultra Launches With NVIDIA Blackwell RTX Spark For Professional Local AI Workloads

Microsoft Launches Surface Laptop Ultra as Most Powerful Ever Optimized for Offline AI and Advanced 3D Rendering Architecture Power with Unified Memory Technology

Microsoft launched Surface Laptop Ultra, the most powerful ever in Surface history. Built in partnership with NVIDIA, it has been optimized for offline AI development, advanced 3D rendering, and immense compilation tasks, which a traditional mobile laptop can’t normally handle. The system uses hardware and software from the silicon level to provide a mobile machine with desktop like performance.

The biggest engineering achievement is NVIDIA Blackwell RTX GPU, which uses up to 128GB of unified memory and supports full CUDA to seamlessly assign memory to either CPU or GPU based on instantaneous needs, effectively removing traditional limitations to offer 1 petaflop of AI performance. The development team stated that the laptop is able to run locally trained models up to 120B parameters without cloud connection.

To handle this density and performance, mechanical and thermal engineers have reimagined the machine to work as a cohesive system. Thermals and Acoustics have been designed to cope with enormous heat generated quietly, providing the thermal budget required for long compilations. The ultra efficient CPU works together with a high capacity battery to deliver a whole day of working away from a power outlet.

On the visual side, it features 15 inch Mini LED PixelSense Ultra touchscreen. It also has the brightest display that Microsoft has ever included in a mobile computer at up to 2000 nits of peak HDR brightness and is capable of 262 pixels per inch in resolution with professional level of color accuracy for visual designers and 3D artists, with the biggest haptic touchpad on any Surface product yet located right under it to provide with accurate response.

The physical appearance is available in either Platinum or Nightfall colors. This time, the physical connector ports on Surface Laptop Ultra cover the essential ones: it has the widest range of physical connectors that have ever shipped with a thin laptop, offering an HDMI port, two USB C ports, one USB A port, an SD card reader, and the classic headphone jack, so the user doesn’t need to carry a hub or adapter around when editing. The arrangement is focused on durability and repairability.
