OpenAI has launched a desktop application of ChatGPT for Linux operating systems. The software brings direct access to the chatbot alongside specialized workspaces for developers and enterprises. This means Linux users finally get the same native experience that Windows and macOS audiences have used for months.
Since the software is still a preview, OpenAI is distributing DEB and RPM packages for x64 and ARM64 computers. The official release support covers several popular distributions. This includes Ubuntu 24.04 LTS and Ubuntu 26.04 LTS, Debian 13, and Fedora 43 and Fedora 44. Users running these systems can download the packages directly from the official company website to access the basic chat function and the Codex programming workspace.

While the Linux app is the big news, a second upgrade is rolling out to all users. ChatGPT can now search for open tables and book restaurant reservations directly inside your chat window. You simply tell the chat bot your preferred time, guest count, budget, or food style to receive real time options. It eliminates the need to jump between multiple browser tabs to plan a dinner.
The booking tool operates through partnerships with established reservation platforms. The software hooks into OpenTable globally, while North American users can also access Resy and Yelp. This means you can secure a table in seconds during a normal conversation.
