Xiaomi has confirmed that the upcoming Xiaomi 18 Fold will be the first smartphone in the world to feature LPDDR6 memory. Supplied by Chinese manufacturer CXMT, the new RAM standard promises faster data speeds and improved efficiency for demanding AI tasks. But Xiaomi is saving the rest of the foldable phone specifications for its full series unveiling next month.
The announcement represents a major milestone for memory supplier CXMT. By bringing LPDDR6 chips to mass production, the company beat out established memory giants like Samsung, SK hynix, and Micron to market. This new standard replaces LPDDR5X and introduces substantial architectural upgrades to handle high bandwidth mobile computing. According to official CXMT performance figures, transfer speeds reach 12,800 Mbps with capacities scaling up to 16GB on a single chip. CXMT has already delivered test samples to hardware partners and is currently ramping up factory output.
To support the new memory standard, Xiaomi developed native hardware integration. The phone runs on the newly announced XRING O3 mobile processor, which is built specifically to handle LPDDR6 throughput. Pairing this processor with faster memory provides the raw bandwidth needed for heavy multitasking and local artificial intelligence features. It allows the system to process data without the memory bottlenecks found on older architectures.
For CXMT, landing inside the Xiaomi 18 Fold marks its first high volume deployment in a commercial flagship. Xiaomi plans to formally introduce the complete Xiaomi 18 lineup next month, though the exact launch schedule remains under wraps.
