Canon has announced the EOS R8 Mark II, its lightest full frame camera to include in body image stabilization. The updated body brings a retro film inspired aesthetic alongside a 24.2 megapixel sensor and 40 frames per second burst shooting. It will reach store shelves late next month starting at $1899 for the body only.
The original R8 launched in 2023 was popular for its compact size, but it lacked internal mechanical stabilization. Canon solved that limitation here. The Mark II includes a 5 axis sensor shift mechanism capable of up to 7.5 stops of shake correction working together with stabilized RF lenses. This addition brings the overall weight to roughly 544 grams. While slightly heavier than the older model, it remains the lightest full frame option in the Canon lineup with built in sensor stabilization.
The exterior gets a visual redesign as well. Canon reshaped the chassis to reflect classic vintage film cameras while keeping the modern control layout intact.
Under the hood, the camera retains the familiar 24.2 megapixel CMOS sensor equipped with an electronic shutter. Fast action shooters can capture continuous bursts at up to 40 frames per second. A pre shooting buffer captures up to 20 frames before the shutter button is fully pressed, ensuring you do not miss split second action moments.
Sales will begin late next month across global markets. The standalone body will retail for $1899 in the US market. Canon is also offering a kit bundle with the 24 to 50 mm stabilized zoom lens priced at $2099.
