HP Star Desk Mini Debuts with Intel Core Ultra Chips and Dual Thunderbolt 4

HP has introduced the Star Desk Mini, an ultra compact desktop computer powered by new Intel Core Ultra processors. The miniature machine measures just 0.8 liters in volume and supports dual Thunderbolt 4 connections alongside high speed memory. Pricing starts at 9599 yuan in China, with open sales beginning this week.

Buyers can configure the system with 2 different processor choices. The base configuration uses an Intel Core Ultra 5 325 chip with 8 cores and 8 threads running at 55W. Users needing more processing headroom can step up to the Intel Core Ultra 7 356H, which features 16 cores and 16 threads with a 65W thermal limit. Both variants come equipped with 16GB of onboard DDR5 system memory. Storage is handled by a 1TB PCIe solid state drive, with a second open slot ready for internal expansion.

The entire computer weighs roughly 475 grams and fits into a tiny frame measuring 130 by 130 by 48 millimeters. HP also integrated a hidden power cable routing system to keep desk setups clean. For wireless connections, the system supports Wi Fi 7 and Bluetooth 6.0.

The port selection is surprisingly generous for such a small chassis. The front panel holds 1 Thunderbolt 4 connector and 1 Type C port running at 10Gbps speeds. Around the back, users get an extra Thunderbolt 4 port, 2 USB A ports, 1 RJ 45 ethernet jack for wired networking, 1 HDMI 2.1 video output, and a standard 3.5 mm audio jack.

The base model with the Ultra 5 325 chip, 16GB of memory, and 1TB of storage retails for 9,599 yuan (approx. $1,431 USD), though local national subsidies bring the final checkout price down to 8,159.15 yuan (approx. $1,216 USD). The higher tier model with the Ultra 7 356H processor is priced at 10,499 yuan (approx. $1,565 USD), with subsidies reducing that figure to 8,999 yuan (approx. $1,341 USD). Both versions are listed across major online retailers ahead of full market availability.
