Release Date Set for February 4 2027 on PC and Consoles

4A Games confirmed the official launch date for Metro 2039 during the latest State of Play broadcast. The post apocalyptic shooter is scheduled to arrive on PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X and S on February 4 2027. A new gameplay presentation captured on PS5 Pro hardware highlighted 4K ray tracing performance and a return to survival mechanics.

The showcase footage put technical performance front and center. Captured directly on PS5 Pro hardware, the 3 minute gameplay reveal demonstrated a smooth 60fps performance mode with active ray tracing running at 4K resolution. The official YouTube video description for the trailer notes that base PS5 and Xbox Series X consoles will also support this mode.

The sequence followed the main character, known as The Stranger, exploring the ruined corridors of an abandoned dentist office. After spotting hostile Novoreich soldiers in the apartments above, the encounter quickly turned into a firefight. Combat moved from room to room before spilling outdoors, combining traditional gunplay with tactical throwing knives and pipe bombs.

The campaign takes place 3 years after the conclusion of Metro Exodus, launching 8 years after that entry first arrived on shelves. The developers confirmed that the story explores the brutal aftermath of war in greater depth than past titles. Survival elements remain essential to staying alive. Players must constantly monitor their air filter supplies while moving through contaminated surface zones.

The signature Karma system returns with substantial revisions. Rather than working quietly in the background, player choices now connect directly to major narrative outcomes. Anticipation around the release is strong, with the game already passing 2,000,000 global wishlists on digital storefronts.

Launching on February 4 places Metro 2039 at the beginning of an intense release calendar. Other major titles arriving in the following weeks include Tomb Raider Legacy of Atlantis and God of War Laufey. To mark the announcement, Sony added Metro Exodus to the PlayStation Plus Extra catalog immediately after the livestream ended.
