The Browser Company Retires Arc to Focus on AI Browser Dia

The Browser Company has announced the upcoming shutdown of its Arc browser as the development team shifts focus toward a new AI centered application called Dia. The project initially gained attention for its vertical tab layout and workspaces, but active development stalled when engineering priorities moved toward automated web research. Current users must export their stored passwords, bookmarks, and extensions before the platform goes offline permanently.

The Browser Company built Dia on Chromium to explore an automated assistant approach to browsing. Rather than forcing users to sift through dozens of open tabs, the integrated intelligence scans active web pages, compiles summaries across documents, and pulls data directly from connected online accounts. This shift in product philosophy prompted leadership to halt new feature updates on Arc, redirecting all technical resources toward automated browsing workflows.

The shutdown occurs in 2 distinct stages before the end of the year. First, the mobile Arc Search app loses its synchronization capabilities and automated tools. Soon after, the desktop client stops working entirely. The iOS application will stay available in a simplified state, while the Android release faces a complete shutdown.

Users need to migrate their personal data immediately to avoid permanent loss. Saved passwords, bookmark collections, browsing histories, and installed extensions can be exported directly into Dia or alternative Chromium platforms. Once the desktop service goes dark, access to synced workspaces and local browser credentials will disappear permanently.
