CXMT Mass Produces LPDDR6 Memory for Xiaomi 18 Fold

ChangXin Memory Technologies has begun mass production of its self developed LPDDR6 memory chips, making their official debut in the Xiaomi 18 Fold flagship phone. The new silicon delivers data speeds up to 12800Mbps and lowers power draw by 20% compared to previous generation memory. This rollout represents the first commercial deployment of LPDDR6 hardware in a production smartphone.

According to the official announcement from CXMT, the new memory packages offer a 16GB capacity using 16Gb dies built to JEDEC specifications. Data transfer speeds hit 12800Mbps, which provides a 60% bandwidth increase over standard 10667Mbps LPDDR5X chips. At the same time, operating power requirements drop by 20%. This efficiency improvement helps reduce thermal buildup and conserves battery life during intensive mobile computing workloads.

The internal architecture uses a dual sub channel layout with 24bit native I/O in standard operational modes. Each individual signal pin supports independent calibration for pre emphasis and signal equalization. On the power management side, the silicon incorporates dual rail DVFS to separate voltages at the hardware level. To ensure data protection, the memory includes built in self testing along with row activation counters designed to stop rowhammer security vulnerabilities.

CXMT moved to a 1295 Ball FBGA package for this release. This structure increases the total solder ball contact area by 50% compared to the 496 Ball layout used on older LPDDR5 designs. Manufacturing these denser chips required over 100 design rule optimizations to create smaller, faster transistors across the circuit layout.

To disperse the extra heat created by higher bandwidth, the packaging uses a high thermal conductivity epoxy molding compound. This protective layer lowers thermal resistance by roughly 40% across the package. The resulting heat dissipation prevents performance throttling when the memory runs under heavy processing loads for extended periods.

The Xiaomi 18 Fold is the initial device to carry the new memory, but CXMT plans to supply LPDDR6 silicon across several computing sectors. The company is targeting upcoming hardware in personal computers, connected automobiles, edge servers, wearable gadgets, and robotics. Surging demand for localized artificial intelligence calculations is accelerating the industry shift toward faster, lower power memory standards.
