Fujitsu has announced the Fujitsu Monaka, a custom processor developed and manufactured entirely in Japan. The chip combines a 2nm compute core with a 5nm IO die using 3D stacking to reach clock speeds up to 3.8GHz. Initial server shipments will head to enterprise pilot customers late this year before expanding to broader international markets.
The processor runs on Arm architecture and uses a 3D chiplet design to balance compute power with efficiency. Compute dies use a 2nm process, while cache and input output sections use a 5nm node. Memory transfer speeds reach up to 8800MT/s. Fujitsu built hardware level acceleration directly into the silicon to process vector operations and matrix math for AI workloads. This setup allows the chip to run AI inference tasks on its own, making it suitable for facilities with strict power or thermal caps. Hardware level encryption is also included to protect sensitive business data.
Fujitsu completed all design, development, and production within Japan. Silicon fabrication takes place at the Kasashima facility, giving government and enterprise buyers a fully domestic hardware supply chain. The company will package the chip into two Monaka Server configurations. The 2U model holds 2 CPUs, while the 1U chassis supports 1 or 2 CPUs. The 1U unit runs on standard air cooling, removing the need for dedicated liquid cooling infrastructure. Pilot deployments for banking and telecom clients begin late this year, with general shipments across Japan and Europe scheduled for early 2027.
